PEORIA -- Who says people don't want to listen to classical music?
A Feb. 20 Mozart concert at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church attracted a large audience that filled the sanctuary. The concert goers were treated to several Mozart pieces culminating in his famous and familiar Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra in C. Major (KV 299).
The players in the 15-piece orchestra were superb, the soloists were wonderful and the setting was spectacular: the lovely church, nearly a century old and perfectly preserved, with candles lighting the sanctuary.
An unobtrusive slide show about Mozart was projected onto a wall at the front of the church before the concert. When the music began, the projection told the name of the piece, the movement being played, and the players. Nice touch!
This concert could have been held in London or Vienna, attracting tourists and big dollars. Instead it played in Peoria, for free, to the delight of the audience. It was part of a music series held at this church, a great gift to the community.
