PEORIA -- The Peoria Area World Affairs Council holds it monthly business meeting at 5:30 p.m. on April 2 in the GAR Hall, 416 Hamilton, followed by its Great Decisions Series.
The business meeting includes the Community Leadership School group presenting their findings. Then in the Great Decisions Discussion Series, Griff Hathaway will lead the discussion of “The US and Rising Powers.” This program is free and will begin at 7:00 pm. Bring a sack dinner to munch and learn.
On Thursday, April 16, a panel discussion of “Afghanistan: The War on Drugs and More” features Doug Bandow of the Cato Institute; Dr. Lisa Killinger, a leader in the Muslim Community of the Quad Cities who lived for five months in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan; former 18th District candidate for Congress Colleen Callahan,a local farm broadcaster who traveled to Afghanistan with the Secretary of Agriculture for a study; and Dr. Shah Tarzi, the Lee Morgan Chair at Bradley University.
The presentation will begin at 7:00 pm in Baker B-51 at Bradley University. There is a fee of $5 for PAWAC members and students, $10 for the general public. Tickets will be available at the door, and the doors will open at 6:30 pm.
UPDATE 4/9/09: The location has been changed to Garrett Center at Bradley University instead of Baker Hall. The Garrett Center is next to the Caterpillar Global Communications Center and directly across from the Visitor Parking Lot. There is also a faculty and staff lot on the corner and across from St. Mark’s school and church on Bradley Avenue. The doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the program will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 16.
Then on May 7, to celebrate EU Day with another panel presentation at Embassy Suites in East Peoria takes place on the impact of trade between the EU and Central Illinois. More details later.
