PEORIA -- The musical comedy Legally Blonde sang and danced its way into the Peoria Civic Center on Nov. 30 for a three-day run. It's cute and clever, well done and entertaining.
It's not Sondheim, of course, and makes no pretense of profundity. Instead it plays on stereotypes, which makes for amusing comedy. They're all there: the dumb blonde, the sorority girls, the ambitious rich students, the shark-like lawyers, the lesbian, gays and feminists, the working class beautician.
There's even a chihuahua named Bruiser -- yes, a live dog on stage -- that performed flawlessly.
The musical is very fast paced and the music a little too loud, making the funny lyrics hard to hear at times. But overall the show is fun and worth the money.
