PEORIA -- The Central Illinois Landmark Foundation is sponsoring a Civil War Sesquicentennial Remembrance Day and GAR Hall fundraiser on SUNDAY, APRIL10TH. The events are scheduled TWO DAYS before, and commemorate, the 150th anniversary of the firing on Ft. Sumter (April12-13, 1861), and the Start of the American Civil War.
Remembrance Day begins with a 2:00 PRAYER SERVICE, at Soldier Hill in Springdale Cemetery. A detachment from the Illinois 10th Cavalry, with Master of Ceremony H. Wayne Wilson, will Present Colors, conduct a brief Prayer Service, perform a Rifle Salute, and conclude with 'Taps'. The Illinois 10th Cav., living historians, will conduct this Service in Civil War era attire, with Civil War era hardware. This Springdale event is scheduled to run from 2:00 to about 2:20.
Remembrance Day continues at 4:00 with a GAR Hall (Grand Army of the Republic) fundraiser dinner at Paparazzi Restaurant, 4315 Voss, Peoria Heights, and the Wayne Baum Family Center (next door to Paparazzi)
The GAR Fundraiser begins at 4:00 with cocktails and Civil War period performances at the Wayne Baum Family Center. Dinner guests will mingle with Civil War era 'living historians' , and hear a remembrance by local performer Brian "Fox" Ellis. Local TV host Mike Dimmick will read 'a letter to Sara', with local violinist Shannan Sullivan.
The GAR Fundraiser guests move from the Baum Center next door the Paparazzi Restaurant, where a special five-course dinner will be served. Courses include "Richmond Tangy Tomato Crab Bisque Soup", "Chicken and Spinach Ravioli with Vicksburg Peas", and "Washington Pork Tenderloin Wrapped in Bacon with Dried Cherries". The dinner will conclude with a presentation of proceeds to the CILF, and a special "surprise" finish.
The Springdale Cemetery Prayer Service in free and open to the public. The Paparazzi/Baum GAR Fundraiser is $150.00 per person. The CILF is a 501c(3) not-for-profit, and 100% of the ticket price is tax-deductible. 100% of the ticket price will go towards the GAR Hall and the Central Illinois Landmark Foundation. Seating for the dinner is limited to 64, and those interested should call Paparazzi Restaurant at 682-5205 for further information.
