PEORIA -- Here's an event for those burned out on other causes, or not, from Peoria Area Voices for Animals:
Go Vegan Demo - March 12th
Every year in the US, 10 billion land animals (and even more aquatic animals) are killed to satisfy people's acquired taste for flesh. Millions of others literally suffer to death before getting to the slaughterhouse.
Please join us this Saturday from 2:30-3:30 pm, at the corner of Main and University, to stand up for farmed animals and urge everyone to adopt a compassionate, healthy, and environmentally-friendly vegan diet.
Not convinced?

Please check out this new video created by Mercy for Animals: http://www.meatvideo.com/ur. It's 11 1/2 minutes long and is a great reminder of why we should not be eating animals or animal products. Please share with family and friends who are still financially supporting the animal agriculture industry. Yes, it's hard to watch what really happens in order to turn living beings into packaged products, but not nearly as hard as it is for the animals to endure. This link as well as others are also on our website and are good to re-view at times when you're tempted to eat or buy dairy products, eggs, meat, or anything containing animal products.

Supreme Court Upholds Destruction of 1st Amendment Rights

The SHAC 7 (Stop Huntington Animal Cruelty) case resulted in prison sentences for 7 animal rights activists, none of whom did anything illegal. They were convicted because they ran a website and took part in peaceful protests. A couple of us from PAVA had the opportunity to meet one of the SHAC 7 defendents, Darius Fulmer, who served about a year in prison. Incarcerating innocent people like Darius and labeling them "terrorists" while defending actual terrorists (those who terrorize, torture, and kill animals in vivisection labs) is done in an attempt to scare and silence those of us who advocate for animal rights. But instead of letting illegal government activity frighten or intimidate us, it seems to make many people work even harder for animals, as is the case with Darius, who after his release from prison, took part in Sea Shepherd's Antarctic campaign to save whales.
