PEORIA -- The first organizational meeting of the Central Illinois Progressive Alliance has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Wed., June 22 in the Lakeview Branch of the Peoria Public Library.
According to a news release, "everyone and anyone is welcome, and encouraged to take part in the building of a local progressive coalition. This meeting's goal is to bridge the gap between the local (progressive) interest groups in the Central Illinois and Peoria Area."
Organizers envision environmentalists, social issue groups, labor, political progressives and everyone else working together for progressive ideas.
The release says: "The organizers of this meeting seek to find a common ground and strengthen progressive politics in the area. We believe that by getting behind a common goal, or a common banner or brand, progressive ideas can grow and flourish in our area."
