PEORIA, IL -- An interesting and under-publicized public meeting for comments on Peoria's recycling program takes place at 6 pm on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center, 800 W. Romeo B. Garrett Ave., Peoria.
The city is allegedly looking for people to comment on recycling. So here's what it needs to do:
- Free recycling bins. Now they cost $50.
- Twice monthly pickup. Now it's monthly.
- More publicity, promotion, marketing and education about recycling.
If all this sounds too expensive consider: Macomb, IL., population about 20,000 has FREE recycling bins and picks up twice monthly. I'll bet the participation is much greater than in Peoria. It contracts with Waste Management.
You can also supposedly comment at a website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/solidwasteservicesCOP but... it's one of those sites that won't work if you don't follow the format exactly. Instead come to the meeting.
